FAQ

Who qualifies for the Starbucks COBRA notice settlement?
Participants (not subject to Starbucks' Arbitration Agreement) and beneficiaries in the Starbucks Welfare Benefits Plan in the U.S. who were sent a COBRA notice between July 21, 2016 and January 1, 2023 after a qualifying event and did not elect continuation coverage. If you got a settlement notice by mail, Starbucks' records show you qualify.
How much money will I get?
About $30 if 25% of the class files, or about $74 if 10% files. Your share depends on how many valid claims come in, so for once, other people's procrastination pays you.
How do I file a claim?
Mail a completed claim form to Lubin v. Starbucks Corp, c/o Settlement Administrator, P.O. Box 23309, Jacksonville, FL 32241-3309, postmarked by December 2, 2026. There is no online claim option.
Do I need proof?
No. Class membership is based on Starbucks' records.
What was wrong with the COBRA notice?
The lawsuit claims the notice did not clearly explain how to enroll in COBRA coverage and left out key details like an election form, the plan administrator's contact information, the plan name, and where to send premium payments. Starbucks denies the claims.
When will I get paid?
Only after the Court grants final approval at the January 6, 2027 hearing and any appeals are resolved. Checks are mailed within 30 days after the fund is paid in, and you have 60 days to cash yours.
Do the lawyers' fees come out of my payment?
No. Class Counsel will ask for $450,000, paid separately by Starbucks. That is more than the whole class fund, but at least it does not shrink your check.
What happens if I do nothing?
You get no check, but you still give up your right to sue over the COBRA notice.
Can I opt out or object?
Yes. Opt-out requests and objections must be mailed and postmarked by December 2, 2026. Objections must also be filed with the Court. If you opt out, you cannot object and you get no payment.
