What happened

Class period: January 6, 2020 through January 31, 2023

• The lawsuit claims Trans Union sold credit reports that listed a bankruptcy "remark" on a credit account, even though the same report had no public record of a bankruptcy filing
• The plaintiff says this is inaccurate when there is no public bankruptcy record within 10 years before the report date
• The claim is that Trans Union broke the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) by not using reasonable steps to make sure reports were accurate
• Trans Union denies it broke the law or did anything wrong
• About 57,000 people are in the class, split into two groups: the No Bankruptcy Group (no bankruptcy record found at all) and the Aged Bankruptcy Group (only bankruptcies filed more than 10 years before the report)

Who may qualify

• You lived in the United States or its Territories
• Between January 6, 2020 and January 31, 2023, Trans Union sold a credit report about you to a third party
• That report showed a bankruptcy remark on a credit account (tradeline) but no bankruptcy record in the public record section
• There is no government-held public record of a bankruptcy filing for you within 10 years before the report date
• You received a mailed or email notice with a Claim Number and PIN (notices went out in May or June 2025)

How to file

1. Find your Claim Number and PIN on your mailed or email notice (your group is listed there too)
2. Go to the claim form page on the official settlement website
3. Enter your Claim Number and PIN exactly as printed, then complete the "I'm not a robot" box
4. Finish the claim form, confirm your mailing address, and pick electronic payment or a paper check
5. Submit by October 30, 2026
6. If you did not get a notice but think you are a class member, contact the Settlement Administrator

Proof required

• No supporting documents are required
• You need the Claim Number and PIN from your mailed or email notice to log in and file

Payment timing

Payments are sent only after the Court grants final approval and any appeals are resolved. You can choose electronic payment through the website, or a paper check will be mailed by USPS. No Bankruptcy Group members who do nothing get a $100 check mailed to the address Trans Union has on file.

• If you stay in the settlement, you give up the right to sue Trans Union over these bankruptcy reporting claims
