What happened
Class period: January 1, 2023 through January 31, 2025
- The lawsuit, Stacy Edey et al. v. Navy Federal Credit Union, Case No. 2:25-cv-554, is pending in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia, Norfolk Division
- It claims Navy Federal Credit Union (NFCU) failed to stop third parties from opening personal loans in members' names, using devices NFCU did not recognize
- It also claims NFCU failed to cancel those loans after scammers posing as NFCU staff talked members into sending the loan funds to unknown third parties
- Members disputed the loans as fraud, and NFCU denied those claims in whole or in part
- NFCU denies the allegations, and the Court has not decided who is right. Both sides agreed to settle to provide benefits to the class
