Travelers NJ PIP Settlement -- File a Claim by June 16, 2026
By eosguide team · Last updated April 28, 2026
Travelers is settling a New Jersey class action over reduced PIP insurance limits. All class members get $70 automatically; file by June 16, 2026 for up to 80% more. Travelers applied your deductible twice -- once when you paid it, and again when they used it to shrink your coverage limit. The $70 check is their opening offer.
What happened
Class period: April 14, 2017 through April 1, 2023
- Plaintiffs alleged that Travelers Indemnity Company and related entities wrongfully reduced Personal Injury Protection (PIP) coverage limits by applying PIP deductibles and copayments to reduce the total PIP benefits available -- meaning insureds who had paid for a certain level of coverage were not paid the full amount they were owed
- The lawsuit covers New Jersey automobile insurance policyholders who were paid PIP benefits within $3,000 of their policy limit but never reached the full limit during the class period
- A related lawsuit brought by Courtney Thorson and Michael J. Lucci, Jr. against The Travelers Companies and St. Paul Protective Insurance Co. has been consolidated into this settlement
- Travelers denies all allegations of wrongdoing and liability
- The settlement provides an automatic $70 payment to all class members who do not opt out, plus the opportunity to file a claim for up to 80% of any shortfall between what was paid and the full policy limit
