PowerSchool Naviance Settlement 2026 -- File a Claim by July 27
By eosguide editorial · Last updated
PowerSchool's Naviance platform allegedly let third-party trackers intercept student communications without consent. File by July 27, 2026 for a share of the $17.25 million fund. You logged into Naviance to research colleges; the lawsuit says it was quietly taking notes on you the whole time.
What happened
Class period: August 18, 2021 through January 23, 2026
- A class action lawsuit alleges that third-party analytics and advertising technologies embedded in the Naviance Platform (a college and career planning tool offered by Hobsons and, later, PowerSchool) intercepted students' confidential and sensitive communications without consent.
- The suit claims this violated several wiretapping and privacy laws, including the federal Electronic Communications Privacy Act (ECPA), the California Invasion of Privacy Act (CIPA), the Illinois Eavesdropping Act, the Stored Communications Act, and the Illinois School Student Records Act.
- The defendants -- PowerSchool Holdings, Hobsons, Heap, and the Board of Education of the City of Chicago -- deny any wrongdoing. The Court has not decided who is right; the parties settled to avoid the cost and uncertainty of trial.
- It affects students across the United States who logged into Naviance during the class period.
