  • The lawsuit claims the Shark-Fin Antenna on certain BMW vehicles was not fully sealed to the roof.
  • Water could leak in and damage parts below the antenna, including the telematics unit and its battery. This is called the Sealing Defect.
  • It affects people who own or lease, or used to own or lease, Model Year 2019-2020 BMW X3, X4, X5, X6, and X7 vehicles in the United States, including DC and Puerto Rico.
  • BMW NA denies it did anything wrong. The court has not decided who is right.

FAQ

Who qualifies for the BMW shark-fin antenna settlement?
You qualify if you own or lease, or used to own or lease, a Model Year 2019-2020 BMW X3, X4, X5, X6, or X7 that was bought or leased in the United States, including DC and Puerto Rico.
What can I get?
Reimbursement for a past Sealing-Defect Repair. You get 100% with no cap if the work was done at a BMW Center, or up to $2,000 if it was done at an independent shop. BMW also extended the warranty for this defect to 10 years or 120,000 miles.
What is the Sealing Defect?
The shark-fin antenna on the roof may not be fully sealed, so water can get in and damage parts below it, like the telematics unit and its battery. An antenna that collects rainwater instead of signals is the short version.
What is the deadline to file?
August 27, 2026 for claim forms. The opt-out and objection deadlines are both June 30, 2026.
What proof do I need?
Proof of the repair and where it was done, your vehicle Model, Model Year, and VIN, proof you owned or leased it, proof it was under 10 years and 120,000 miles at the time, an itemized cost with parts and labor separated, proof of payment, and the part numbers and repair date.
What if I have not paid for a repair yet?
You may not need to file. BMW extended the warranty for this defect, so a BMW Center will fix it free during the warranty period. For 60 days after final approval, BMW Centers will also fix any Class Vehicle free, no matter the age or mileage.
