Benefit Free hood repair or replacement for current owners plus reimbursement of past out-of-pocket repair and rental costs for eligible class members.

What happened

Class period: Current and former U.S. owners and lessees of specific 2022 model year Mitsubishi Outlander vehicles identified by VIN (see VIN Lookup Portal at hoodsettlement.com for eligibility)

  • A class action lawsuit (Damocles, et al. v. Mitsubishi Motors North America, Inc.) alleged that certain 2022 Mitsubishi Outlander vehicles have a defective hood design that causes the hood to flutter and bounce while driving at highway speeds
  • Mitsubishi Motors North America (MMNA) denied all claims, maintaining the hoods were properly designed, manufactured, marketed, and sold, and that no warranties were breached
  • The parties resolved the case through a settlement without a court ruling or any admission of wrongdoing
  • The settlement does not cover every 2022 Mitsubishi Outlander -- only specific vehicles identified by Vehicle Identification Number (VIN); owners should check eligibility using the VIN Lookup Portal at hoodsettlement.com
  • Current owners with an ongoing hood flutter concern can get a free repair or replacement at an authorized Mitsubishi dealer; former owners who paid for repairs out of pocket may file for reimbursement

FAQ

Does every 2022 Mitsubishi Outlander qualify for this settlement?
No. Only specific 2022 Outlanders identified by Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) are covered. Use the free VIN Lookup tool at hoodsettlement.com to check whether your vehicle qualifies before doing anything else.
What is the deadline to file a claim for reimbursement?
July 30, 2026. Your completed Claim Form and supporting documents must be submitted online or postmarked by that date. Miss it, and you are out of luck regardless of eligibility.
I already paid out of pocket for a hood repair. Can I get that money back?
Yes, if your vehicle is a Settlement Class Vehicle and the repair was paid and unreimbursed prior to the Notice Date. You can claim 100% of covered repair costs. If the repair was done by a non-authorized dealer, reimbursement is capped at $4,595.
Do I need to file a claim to get my hood repaired under the warranty extension?
No. If you are a current owner or lessee with an active hood flutter concern, simply bring your vehicle to an authorized Mitsubishi dealer on or after May 1, 2026 and express that concern. The warranty extension handles it -- no Claim Form required for that benefit.
My hood was already repaired once, but the flutter came back. Am I still covered?
Yes. The warranty extension applies to vehicles that previously received a repair under the relevant technical service bulletins and are still experiencing flutter concerns. Bring the vehicle back to an authorized dealer.
I sold my 2022 Outlander. Can I still file?
Yes. Former owners and lessees of eligible vehicles are included in the settlement class and may file for reimbursement of past out-of-pocket repair and rental costs.
When will I receive my reimbursement payment?
If your claim is approved, payment will be mailed within 150 days of either the date your completed claim is received or the date the settlement becomes final, whichever is later. The Final Fairness Hearing is scheduled for August 3, 2026. You can check your claim status by calling 1-888-238-0781.
What if I want to opt out of the settlement?
You may exclude yourself by mailing a written Request for Exclusion postmarked no later than June 15, 2026, to the Claims Administrator, Class Counsel, and Defense Counsel. Contact information and full instructions are at hoodsettlement.com/frequently-asked-questions.aspx. If you opt out, you receive no settlement benefits but keep the right to pursue your own legal claims.
Do I need to hire a lawyer to participate?
No. The Court has appointed Lemberg Law LLC as Class Counsel to represent all Settlement Class Members at no cost to you. You may hire your own attorney if you wish, but it is not required to file a claim or receive benefits.
