What did Metropolis actually do wrong in Tennessee?
Metropolis operates parking lots across Nashville, Knoxville, and Memphis using license plate reader technology โ you drive in, a camera logs your plate, you pay at the end without a ticket. In theory, frictionless. In practice, the AG's investigation found a list of problems that reads less like an accident and more like a business model.
Investigators found the company posted inaccurate pricing signs, then charged whatever the actual rate was. Technology glitches generated charges for sessions that hadn't happened or had already been paid. When customers asked for refunds, the process was constructed to absorb complaints without resolving them. The violation notices were formatted to imply government affiliation.
The company called all of this "long-past operational issues." The settlement was signed in January 2026.
Do I qualify for the free Metropolis parking credits in Tennessee?

Each qualifying account gets two separate $15 credits. They must be used on different visits and don't stack โ but they can be combined with validations. If your parking bill is under $15, the leftover does not carry forward to your next visit.

Can I get a cash refund for past Metropolis overcharges in Tennessee?
Yes โ if you parked at a Metropolis lot in Tennessee between July 1, 2021, and January 6, 2026, and believe you were overcharged and never received a refund, you may be eligible to file a claim with the Tennessee AG's office for actual money back.
The AG's investigation found that Metropolis had made refunds "nearly impossible" to obtain. Under the settlement, the company must now evaluate each request individually โ a standard so foundational it required a court order to introduce.
The process for filing those claims has not yet been announced as of publication. AG Skrmetti's office will make a public announcement once the claims portal is live. The settlement funds designated for consumer refunds are separate from the $2.25 million parking credit pool.
