Trader Joe's FACTA Receipt Settlement -- File a Claim by June 9, 2026
By eosguide team · Last updated April 28, 2026
Trader Joe's is settling a $7.4M class action over receipts that printed too many card digits. File a claim by June 9, 2026 for your share. Turns out printing 10 digits of your card number on a receipt is four too many -- and now there's a check in it for you.
What happened
Class period: March 5, 2019 through July 19, 2019
- Plaintiff Brian Keim sued Trader Joe's in 2019 under the Fair and Accurate Credit Transactions Act (FACTA), which limits how many card digits can appear on a point-of-sale receipt
- At some Trader Joe's locations, payment processing software formatted receipts to display the first six and last four digits of customers' credit or debit card numbers -- 10 digits total, which exceeds the federal limit
- Trader Joe's denies any wrongdoing and notes that not all stores were affected, and that only a minority of transactions at affected stores generated such receipts
- No identity theft needs to have occurred -- FACTA claims do not require proof of actual harm
- Trader Joe's (through its insurer) agreed to pay $7,400,000 to resolve the lawsuit
