What happened

Class period: The Data Incident occurred in September 2021.

In September 2021, Pawn America -- operating as Pawn America Minnesota, LLC, Payday America, Inc., and PAL Card Minnesota, LLC -- experienced a data breach that potentially compromised the private information of customers across the United States. A class action lawsuit followed in U.S. District Court for the District of Minnesota (Case No. 21-cv-02554), alleging the companies failed to adequately protect customer data. Pawn America denies all wrongdoing, but both sides agreed to settle rather than proceed to trial.

FAQ

Who qualifies for the Pawn America data breach settlement?
You qualify if you lived in the United States at the time of the September 2021 data breach and your personal information was potentially compromised -- including if you received a notification letter from Pawn America.
How much can I receive?
All qualifying class members can claim approximately $30 with no documentation required. California residents at the time of the incident can claim an additional \~$50. If you suffered documented financial losses tied to the breach, you may claim up to $5,000 with supporting receipts or third-party documentation. All amounts may be adjusted proportionally based on the total number of valid claims filed.
When is the deadline to file a claim?
Your claim must be submitted online or postmarked by July 6, 2026.
Do I need documentation to file?
Not for the basic cash payment. The Classwide Cash Payment and California Cash Payment require only a valid Claim Form. To claim a Documented Loss Payment of up to $5,000, you must provide receipts or other third-party documents supporting your losses. Self-prepared documents may supplement but cannot replace third-party documentation.
How do I file a claim?
You can file online at the official claim form (veritaconnect.com/pawnamericasettlement/Claimant), download and mail a paper form from www.pawnamericasettlement.com, or request a paper form from the Settlement Administrator by calling 1-888-266-7074.
What happens if I do nothing?
You will not receive a payment. If the Court grants final approval, you will still be bound by the settlement's release of claims, meaning you give up your right to sue Pawn America over the data breach even without receiving a dime. Filing takes a few minutes. Do not skip it.
What is the opt-out deadline and how do I opt out?
If you want to preserve your right to sue Pawn America independently, mail a written Request for Exclusion postmarked by June 5, 2026, to the Settlement Administrator. Your letter must include your name, address, phone number, email, a clear statement that you want to be excluded, and your personal signature.
When will payments be sent?
Payments will not go out until after the Court grants Final Approval and any appeals are resolved. The Final Approval Hearing is set for September 9, 2026. Check www.pawnamericasettlement.com for updates on timing.
