What happened

Class period: Purchased in the United States before January 9, 2026 (no earliest purchase date specified -- check the official site for details)

  • Generac Holdings Inc. and Generac Power Systems, Inc. face a federal class action lawsuit over SnapRS devices -- components used inside their PWRcell Solar Power Systems.
  • Plaintiffs allege these SnapRS devices may overheat, melt, or fail, causing system-wide shutdowns and significant performance problems for homeowners who invested in solar energy.
  • The lawsuit is consolidated in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Wisconsin as MDL No. 3078 and covers PWRcell systems purchased anywhere in the United States before January 9, 2026.
  • Generac denies all allegations and any wrongdoing. The Court has not decided who is right. Both sides agreed to a $15 million settlement to avoid the cost and uncertainty of trial.

Proof required

  • Pre-qualified claimants (those who received a notice with a Claim ID): no additional ownership proof is required for the System Claim
  • Claimants without a Claim ID: documentation establishing you as the current Owner or Primary User of an eligible PWRcell system
  • Out-of-pocket expense claims: receipts, invoices, or other records showing costs paid for SnapRS-related repairs or system removal before January 9, 2026; self-prepared documents alone are not sufficient
  • Power generation loss claims: utility bills or PWRView app reports covering the months of reduced output; self-prepared summaries may supplement but cannot stand alone

Payment timing

Payments will be issued after the Settlement receives final court approval. You may choose from several electronic payment options at the time you submit your claim, or request a paper check. Ensure your email and mailing address are current when you file.

FAQ

Who qualifies for the Generac PWRcell settlement?
You qualify if you are a current Owner or Primary User of a Generac PWRcell System purchased in the United States before January 9, 2026, and you reside in the United States. Systems provided through U.S. Department of Energy grants are excluded.
What is the deadline to file a claim?
August 24, 2026, at 11:59 p.m. CDT. Claims can be submitted online at GeneracSnapSettlement.com or mailed postmarked by that date.
How much money will I receive?
The exact amount depends on how many valid claims are filed. All eligible claimants receive a pro-rata share from the $15 million fund, calculated in part based on the number of SnapRS devices in their system. Additional compensation is available for documented out-of-pocket expenses and verified power generation losses.
Do I need documentation to file?
If you received a settlement notice with a Claim ID, you are pre-qualified and can use the simplified Easy Pay Option without additional proof of ownership. Without a Claim ID, you will need to provide evidence of system ownership or primary user status. Receipts or invoices are required for out-of-pocket expense claims, and utility bills or PWRView app reports are needed for power generation loss claims.
What is the opt-out deadline?
July 20, 2026, at 11:59 p.m. CDT. To opt out, mail a signed written request or submit one electronically through the settlement website by that date. You cannot opt out by phone.
My system was installed in 2023 -- does that change my payment?
Yes. Systems installed in or after May 2022 have their System Claim points reduced by 50%, which will lower your pro-rata payment compared to earlier installations.
What if both an Owner and a Primary User file claims for the same system?
Each receives one-half (50%) of the total per-system settlement payment. Note that if either the Owner or Primary User opts out of the settlement, both are excluded from all monetary benefits.
