Amazon Prime FTC Settlement – File a Claim for Up to $51
The FTC reached a $2.5 billion settlement with Amazon over claims it enrolled customers in Prime without consent and made cancellation deliberately difficult. Eligible customers may receive up to $51. Many got automatic refunds by December 2025 — if you didn't, you may still be eligible to file a claim using the notice Amazon sent by email or postcard.
What happened
Class period: June 23, 2019 through June 23, 2025
- The FTC alleged Amazon obtained consumers' billing information before clearly disclosing Prime's material terms
- Amazon allegedly failed to obtain consumers' express informed consent for Prime enrollment
- Amazon allegedly failed to provide simple mechanisms for consumers to cancel Prime
- Settlement entered September 25, 2025 in U.S. District Court, Western District of Washington — Case No. 2:23-cv-00932-JHC
- Total settlement: $2.5 billion — $1.5 billion for refunds, $1 billion civil penalty
- Amazon did not admit liability
