Transamerica Life Insurance MDR Settlement 2026 -- At Least $200, No Claim to File
By eosguide team · Last updated May 5, 2026
Transamerica Life settled for $57M over alleged rate hikes on universal life insurance policies. Policyowners get at least $200 -- no claim required. Turns out the one thing your policy couldn't protect against was your insurer changing the price.
What happened
Class period: November 1, 2021 through the Final Approval Date (hearing scheduled for July 13, 2026)
- Transamerica Life Insurance Company (TLIC) is accused of breaching contracts with universal life insurance policyowners by imposing unauthorized Monthly Deduction Rate (MDR) increases in 2022 and 2023.
- Policyowners received letters announcing the rate increases, which plaintiffs allege violated the terms of their policy contracts.
- TLIC denies any wrongdoing. With the help of a neutral mediator, the parties reached a $57 million settlement.
- The case affects current and former owners of certain TLIC universal life insurance policies who received written notice of the 2022/23 MDR Increases. A full list of affected products is available on the official settlement website.
