What happened

Class period: April 1, 2019 through December 31, 2023

  • Plaintiffs allege that Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) engaged in anticompetitive conduct designed to monopolize the PlayStation digital game market
  • Specifically, Sony allegedly eliminated Game-Specific Vouchers (GSVs) -- physical or digital codes sold by third-party retailers that let PlayStation users download specific games at competitive prices -- causing digital game prices on the PlayStation Store to rise by at least $0.50 for affected titles after April 1, 2019
  • A federal antitrust class action was filed (Caccuri, et al. v. Sony Interactive Entertainment LLC, No. 21-cv-03361-AMO, N.D. Cal.); after extensive discovery, the parties agreed to a $7.85 million settlement
  • Sony denies all allegations; the court has not determined whether any law was violated
  • Affects U.S. PlayStation Store customers who bought certain qualifying digital games between April 1, 2019, and December 31, 2023

FAQ

Who qualifies for the PSN Digital Games Settlement?
You qualify if you purchased a digital video game through the PlayStation Store between April 1, 2019, and December 31, 2023, and that game previously had a Game-Specific Voucher (GSV) available at retail prior to April 1, 2019 -- with at least 200 GSV redemptions made before that date -- and its price increased by at least $0.50 compared to the pre-April 2019 period. A list of eligible games is posted on the Court Documents page at PSNDigitalGamesSettlement.com.
Do I need to file a claim?
No. If you qualify and have an active PSN account, your payment will be deposited directly to your PSN wallet after the settlement is approved. Nothing to submit, nothing to print, nothing to fax.
What if my PSN account is deactivated?
You can still receive your share. Contact the settlement administrator by August 27, 2026, by phone (877-777-9145), email (info@PSNDigitalGamesSettlement.com), or mail, and provide your qualifying purchase information and a current mailing address to request a check.
How much will I receive?
Individual amounts have not been announced. Your payment will be a pro-rata portion of the net settlement fund -- the $7.85 million total minus attorneys' fees (up to 25%), litigation costs, service awards, and administration expenses. The final per-person amount depends on how many qualifying purchases are in the class.
What is the deadline to opt out or object?
July 2, 2026. Both exclusion requests and written objections must be filed with the Court and postmarked to Plaintiff's Counsel by that date. After July 2, you cannot exclude yourself from the settlement.
When is the final approval hearing?
The Fairness Hearing is scheduled for October 15, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. before Judge Araceli Martínez-Olguín at the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California in San Francisco. Attendance is not required.
What was Sony accused of doing?
Plaintiffs allege that Sony Interactive Entertainment used anticompetitive tactics to monopolize the PlayStation digital game market -- specifically by eliminating Game-Specific Vouchers sold through third-party retailers, which removed a cheaper alternative and allegedly caused prices to rise on the PlayStation Store. Sony denies all allegations, and the court has not ruled on whether any law was violated.
What happens if I do nothing?
If you are a qualifying class member with an active PSN account, you will automatically receive your payment after final approval -- doing nothing is actually the right move for most people. You will also be bound by the court's decisions and release your claims against Sony.
