Between May 31 and June 10, 2023, HopSkipDrive, a California-based ride-sharing service that transports children to school and activities, suffered a cybersecurity attack on its computer systems. An investigation determined that a threat actor accessed database files containing private information of HopSkipDrive users, including names, addresses, email addresses, Social Security numbers, dates of birth, driver's license numbers, and medical information.

HopSkipDrive began notifying affected individuals on or around November 14, 2023. Multiple class action lawsuits were filed alleging that HopSkipDrive failed to adequately protect this private information, and those cases were consolidated into a single action.

FAQ

What is HopSkipDrive?
HopSkipDrive is a ride-sharing service designed to transport children to school and activities. Between May 31 and June 10, 2023, its computer systems were hit by a cybersecurity attack that exposed private information including names, Social Security numbers, driver's license numbers, and medical information. The company notified affected individuals in November 2023 and is now settling the resulting class action lawsuit.
What are my options for claiming money?
You have several options that can be combined. You can claim up to $5,000 for documented out-of-pocket losses with supporting paperwork, up to $125 for lost time spent dealing with the breach (no receipts required, just a description), and an additional \~$100 cash payment that requires no documentation at all. California residents can also claim an extra \~$250. All claimants can also sign up for two years of free credit monitoring regardless of which other benefits they choose.
Do I need receipts to file?
It depends on what you are claiming. The \~$100 additional cash payment and the credit monitoring require no documentation beyond your Unique ID from the notice. Lost time claims require a written description of what you did and when. The up-to-$5,000 out-of-pocket loss claim requires supporting documents like bank statements, receipts, or invoices.
I live in California. What extra benefit do I get?
California residents who lived in the state at any point between May 31, 2023 and April 14, 2026 are eligible for an additional California Statutory Cash Payment of approximately $250. A sworn attestation of California residency is all you need to qualify.
What happens if my documented loss claim is rejected?
If your claim for documented out-of-pocket losses is rejected and you do not correct the deficiency, it will automatically be treated as a claim for the additional \~$100 cash payment instead.
Can I still opt out?
No. The opt-out deadline was March 16, 2026 and has passed. If you did not exclude yourself by that date, you are a class member and are bound by the settlement once it receives final approval.
What payment methods are available?
You can choose to receive your payment via PayPal, Venmo, other digital payment options, or a traditional check. You select your preferred method on the Claim Form.
What happens if I do nothing?
If you do nothing, you will not receive any payment or credit monitoring benefits. You will still be bound by the settlement and will release your claims against HopSkipDrive related to the data breach.
