Whirlpool Refrigerator Settlement 2026 -- Ice Maker Dead? File a Claim by November 2
Whirlpool settled over faulty wiring in 2018-2021 side-by-side fridges. Get cash or a free repair for your ice maker failure -- file by Nov. 2, 2026.
What happened
Class period: Refrigerators manufactured 2018–2021; Wire Harness Issues occurring between years 2 and 7 after the refrigerator's in-service date
Whirlpool manufactured certain side-by-side refrigerators between 2018 and 2021 under the Whirlpool, Maytag, KitchenAid, and JennAir brand names. A defect in the wire harness -- a bundle of wires running to the freezer door -- caused the wires to break or fail, taking out the ice maker, ice dispenser, water dispenser, and control panel along with them. A refrigerator with all the premium in-door features and none of them working is, as it turns out, just an expensive box.
Plaintiffs filed a class action lawsuit (Costa v. Whirlpool Corp., Case No. 1:24-cv-00188-MN) in the U.S. District Court for the District of Delaware, alleging Whirlpool breached warranties, was negligent, and concealed the Wire Harness Issue. Whirlpool denies wrongdoing. Both sides agreed to settle to avoid the cost and risk of continued litigation.

Extra details
- Whirlpool has searched its own records and is mailing tailored notices to customers already identified as having reported a Wire Harness Issue. If you received a targeted notice, you may not need to prove the failure occurred -- but you will still need to document your out-of-pocket costs.
- If your repair involved wire splicing or wire reconnection, you may be entitled to additional benefits on top of the repair cost reimbursement. Check the FAQ at refrigeratorsettlement.com/faqs for details.
- For future Wire Harness Issues: do not repair or replace anything before contacting Whirlpool or the Settlement Administrator. Showing up with a receipt for work already done is the one move that costs you coverage you still had coming.
- This settlement does not release personal injury claims or property damage claims for anything other than the refrigerator itself.
