Shimano Hollowtech II Crankset Settlement – Get Reimbursed by August 4, 2026
By eosguide team · Last updated
If you owned a Shimano Ultegra or Dura-Ace crankset manufactured before July 2019 and paid out of pocket to replace it after it separated or delaminated, a class action settlement may reimburse your costs — deadline to file is August 4, 2026.
What happened
Class period: Cranksets manufactured before July 2019; qualifying replacements made before September 21, 2023.
- In September 2023, Shimano voluntarily recalled certain Hollowtech II cranksets manufactured before July 2019 due to a risk of bonding separation and delamination — which, for a component called "Dura-Ace," is not a great look
- Plaintiffs filed a class action lawsuit alleging the recall was inadequate and that Shimano and major bike retailers (Specialized, Trek, and Giant) misrepresented their products
- A settlement has been reached providing reimbursement for out-of-pocket replacement costs, plus an extended warranty for still-affected cranksets through July 2027

Who may qualify
- Purchased, received, were given, or owned a Shimano Ultegra FC-6800, FC-R8000, Dura-Ace FC-9000, FC-R9100, or FC-R9100-P crankset manufactured before July 2019
- Your crankset has one of the eligible production codes (KF through RF — full list on the official settlement site and the CPSC recall page)
- You replaced the crankset because it separated, delaminated, or showed signs of delamination or separation
- The replacement happened before September 21, 2023
- The express warranty had already expired at the time of your replacement
How to file
- 1. Visit the official Shimano crankset settlement website
- 2. Click "Start Your Claim"
- 3. Upload documentation of your original purchase and your replacement costs
- 4. Submit online by August 4, 2026 — or mail your claim form postmarked by August 4, 2026
Proof required
- Proof of original purchase: a receipt, invoice, or photo of the crankset clearly showing the serial number and production code
- Proof of replacement costs: receipt or invoice for your replacement crankset and/or installation labor
- No paperwork? You can submit a signed declaration under penalty of perjury — because apparently some of us don't keep receipts for $500 bike components
Payment timing
Reimbursement will be issued after the court grants final approval of the settlement. Check the settlement homepage for status updates — patience is a virtue, even if your crankset wasn't.
