MUBI Auto-Renewal Settlement 2026 -- File a Claim by June 9
By eosguide team · Last updated April 23, 2026
MUBI is paying $1.6 million to settle claims it auto-renewed subscriptions without proper notice. California subscribers can file a claim by June 9, 2026. Turns out "carefully curated" applied to the films, not the billing disclosures.
What happened
Class period: April 1, 2021 through May 31, 2025
- MUBI, a global streaming service, production company, and film distributor, allegedly failed to provide California subscribers with adequate notice that its subscriptions automatically renewed
- The lawsuit claims MUBI also failed to seek sufficient consent before charging customers for those renewals
- MUBI is accused of violating California's False Advertising Law and California's Unfair Competition Law
- MUBI denies the claims and any liability or wrongdoing, but agreed to settle to avoid the cost and risk of trial
- The case affects California residents who signed up for MUBI on or after April 1, 2021 and had their subscription renewed between April 1, 2021 and May 31, 2025 without receiving a full refund of those charges
