What happened

Class period: Documented losses must have been incurred between August 21, 2024 and March 23, 2026.

On November 6, 2024, Mizuno USA, Inc. detected an unauthorized cybersecurity attack on its systems. The company's investigation determined that files containing sensitive personal information, including names, Social Security numbers, financial account numbers, driver's license numbers, and passport numbers, may have been accessed. Mizuno sent breach notification letters to affected individuals in or around January 2025.

A class action lawsuit, Freiburger v. Mizuno USA, Inc. (Case No. 25EV010647), was filed in the State Court of Fulton County, Georgia. Mizuno denies any wrongdoing, but both sides agreed to settle to avoid the cost and uncertainty of a trial. Your running shoes outperformed the company's cybersecurity. Now it's time to collect.

The settlement covers all U.S. residents who received a notice from Mizuno USA about the breach.

FAQ

Who qualifies for this settlement?
You qualify if you are a U.S. resident who received a notice from Mizuno USA that your personal information may have been compromised in the cybersecurity attack discovered in November 2024.
What can I get from this settlement?
You have a few options. The simplest is a $50 alternative cash payment -- no documentation required, just file a claim. If you had actual out-of-pocket expenses or lost time dealing with the breach, you can claim up to $475. If your identity was stolen or misused as a result of the breach, you may be eligible for up to $5,000 in extraordinary loss reimbursement. All claimants can also request 24 months of one-bureau credit monitoring with $1 million in fraud protection.
Do I need to submit any documentation?
It depends on what you are claiming. The $50 cash payment and credit monitoring require no paperwork at all. Ordinary loss reimbursement requires receipts or records showing your out-of-pocket expenses. Lost time requires an attestation. Extraordinary loss claims require documentation proving that identity theft or fraud occurred and was linked to this breach.
What is the deadline to file a claim?
The claim submission deadline is June 15, 2026. Don't wait -- there is no benefit to filing at 11:59 PM on deadline day.
When is the opt-out deadline?
If you want to exclude yourself from the settlement and keep your right to sue Mizuno on your own, you must submit a written exclusion request postmarked by May 15, 2026.
Can I object to the settlement?
Yes. If you remain in the settlement class (meaning you do not opt out), you may file a written objection with the court. The objection deadline is also May 15, 2026. Note that objecting does not entitle you to benefits -- you must still file a claim separately if you want compensation.
When will I receive payment?
Payments go out after the court grants final approval of the settlement. The Final Fairness Hearing is scheduled for June 4, 2026, but appeals can delay distribution. Check www.MizunoSettlement.com for updates.
What personal information was involved in the breach?
According to the settlement notice, the potentially compromised information includes names, Social Security numbers, financial account numbers, driver's license numbers, and passport numbers.
What if I do nothing?
If you do nothing, you receive no compensation and you give up your right to sue Mizuno over the claims covered by this settlement. Doing nothing costs you both money and legal rights -- a genuinely bad deal.
