What happened

Class period: October 16, 2023 through October 19, 2023 (the dates of the data breach)

In October 2023, a criminal cyberattack on a third-party vendor gave attackers unauthorized access to Comcast customer data. The breach ran from October 16 through October 19, 2023. Comcast publicly disclosed it on December 18, 2023, and notified potentially affected customers directly.

A class action lawsuit -- Hasson v. Comcast Cable Communications LLC -- followed, alleging that Comcast failed to adequately protect customer data, had insufficient security practices, violated the federal Cable Act and certain state consumer laws, and did not properly notify impacted individuals. Comcast denies all wrongdoing.

The case is pending in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania. A proposed settlement of $117,500,000 has been reached with Comcast Cable Communications, LLC, Comcast Corporation, Citrix Systems Inc., and Cloud Software Group Inc.

If you were sent an individual data breach notification from Comcast around December 18, 2023, you are likely included in the Settlement Class.

FAQ

Who qualifies for this settlement?
You qualify if you live in the United States or its territories and were sent an individual notification from Comcast around December 18, 2023, informing you that your personal information may have been compromised in the October 2023 data breach.
What can I get from this settlement?
You have three options. You can file for an Alternative Cash Payment of approximately $50 with no documentation required. You can file for reimbursement of documented out-of-pocket losses and/or up to five hours of lost time, with a combined cap of $10,000. Or you can enroll in three years of identity protection through CyEx Financial Shield Complete -- no claim form needed for that one.
What is the deadline to file a claim?
August 14, 2026. Submit online by 11:59 p.m. ET that day, or mail your paper Claim Form postmarked by August 14, 2026.
Do I need documentation to get the cash payment?
Not for the Alternative Cash Payment -- just submit the Claim Form with an attestation. If you want reimbursement for actual losses, you will need supporting documentation such as bank statements, credit card statements, or receipts.
Do I need to file a claim to get the identity monitoring?
No. Identity Defense Services are automatically available to all Settlement Class Members. Your enrollment code was included in the breach notice you received. You can pre-enroll now at the CyEx portal and activate your coverage once the settlement is final.
What counts as a reimbursable out-of-pocket loss?
Eligible expenses include unreimbursed costs from identity theft or fraud, credit freeze fees, credit monitoring products, and other related expenses such as postage or mileage -- incurred on or after October 16, 2023. Losses must be reasonably traceable to the data breach and supported by documentation.
What is the opt-out deadline?
June 1, 2026. If you want to preserve your right to sue Comcast separately over this breach, you must mail a written Request for Exclusion to the Settlement Administrator postmarked by that date, or submit and verify it online by June 1, 2026.
When will I get paid?
After the Court grants Final Approval and any appeals are resolved. The Final Approval Hearing is scheduled for July 7, 2026. Payments will be distributed as soon as possible after that process is complete.
How do I contact the Settlement Administrator?
Call (833) 319-2401 or write to: Hasson v. Comcast Cable Communications LLC, c/o Kroll Settlement Administration LLC, P.O. Box 5324, New York, NY 10150-5324.
What if I do nothing?
You will give up your right to sue Comcast over the breach and will not receive a cash payment. You will still be able to enroll in the Identity Defense Services once the settlement is final -- but filing a claim takes a few minutes and could be worth considerably more than doing nothing.
